Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, lies on the scenic Bay of Bengal. Once known as Madras, the city traces its colonial roots to Fort St. George (1644), now a museum narrating its history as a British garrison and East India Company outpost. Chennai is equally famous for its spiritual landmarks such as the Kapaleeshwarar Temple with its intricately carved gopurams, and St. Mary’s Church, one of the oldest Anglican churches in Asia. Beyond its historic charm, Chennai delights travelers with Carnatic music, vibrant cuisine, serene beaches, and thriving cultural life – making it one of India’s most captivating tourist destinations.
Kanchipuram – also known as Kanjeevaram and famously called the City of Thousand Temples – is renowned for its magnificent temple architecture, 1000-pillared halls, towering gopurams, and exquisite silk saris. It stands as one of India’s most significant inland tourist destinations, drawing visitors from across the world. The name Kanchipuram is derived from the Tamil words “kanchi” and “puram”, meaning “the city of kaanchi flowers,” owing to their abundance in the region. The city is beautifully situated on the banks of the Vegavathy and Palar Rivers.
